NC offering $8,000 to first-time homebuyers. Do you qualify?

This is great news for first-time homebuyers in North Carolina! The state is offering $8,000 in downpayment assistance to first-time homebuyers.

According to the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, first-time buyers are defined by those who have not owned a home as their principal residence in the past three years. Military veterans may be eligible for other products as well.

Among other factors, you may qualify for downpayment assistance if you:

1. Have not been a homeowner for the past 3 years
2. Have a media credit scare above 640
3. Are purchasing a home below $250,000
4. Have a household income below $70,000 for 1-2 people, $81,000 for 3 people

On top of downpayment assistance, as a first-time homebuyer you may also qualify for the NC Home Advantage Tax Credit. The Home Advantage Tax Credit could save you them up to $2,000 a year on your federal tax liability with a Mortgage Credit Certificate.
